13. Cultural cooperation in the other European programmes. Other European programmes in such areas as industry, research, education, training or regional development aid also support cultural cooperation.

The European Union programme in the field of education is aimed at enhancing the quality of children, youth an adults' education. This programme includes:
1 COMENIUS - its action focuses on the first phase of education, primary and secondary schooling including technical and vocational education.
2 ERASMUS - its purpose is to improve the quality of higher education and strengthen its European dimension
3 ERASMUS THEMATIC NETWORK - an activity within the SOCRATES/Erasmus Programme. The aims are to enhance quality and to develop a European dimension within a given academic discipline or study area
4 GRUNTVIG - it seeks to improve the quality and European dimension of adult education and to help make lifelong learning opportunities more widely available to Europe's citizens.
5 LINGUA - The promotion of language teaching and learning (aspects of Lingua in particular).
6 MINERVA - seeks to promote European co-operation in the field of Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Information and Communication Technology (ICT) in education.
7 ARION - The purpose is the exchange of information and expertise between decision makers and educational specialists, especially in the fields of primary or general, technical and vocational secondary education.

Research, technologies and cultural co-operation

• European projects for the preservation of the cultural heritage- The aim is to Keep the past and present for the future; Information Society Technologies one of the thematic priorities in the 'Framework Programme for Research and Technological Development', the major instrument for research funding by the European Union.
• Projects supporting other EU policies including culture
• Co-operation projects in the field of digitalisation of cultural contents Activities of mobility and of research worker's trainings;
• eContentplus Programme, which aims to support the development of multi-lingual content for innovative and on-line services across the EU.

Cultural co-operation and regional development:
• Interreg III is a Community initiative which aims to stimulate inter-regional co-operation in the EU between 2000-2006. It is financed under the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF)
• Leader+ is one of four initiatives financed by EU structural funds and is designed to help rural actors consider the long term potential of their local region.
• EBLIDA – is the organization. EBLIDA functions as the umbrella association for library, information, documentation and archive associations and all kinds of libraries throughout Europe

Audiovisual co-operation
The MEDIA programme, which aims at strenghtening the competitiveness of the European audiovisual industry, supports the creation of co-operation networks between various European organisations working in the audiovisual training area, the networking of cinemas and European distributors, and co-operation between audiovisual festivals in Europe.
